A recent report outlines the barriers faced by members of Philadelphia's transgender community when trying to get health care.
A new study from the Public Health Management Corporation indicates a number of barriers prevent many members of Philadelphia's transgender community from receiving proper health care.
Research associate Lee Carson says one in five participants in the survery reported unequal treatment, verbal harassment, disrespect within a doctor's office or hospital:
"One particular person says she went to the emergency room and she was dressed as a woman, identified as a women, however, she didn't have all of her legal documents changed yet. So the people who were helping her kept refering to her by her male name."
Carson says the report has been sent to policy makers, politicians, and health care organizations.
